Book Report Fun Facts
Lots of you have written asking for information about me for book reports. Hopefully some of these fun facts will help make your book reports extra great! Good luck and thanks for writing about me!
Fun Fact #1: I was born in Fayetteville, AR, in 1964. I grew up in Arkansas and then lived in lots of fun places including New Orleans, Paris, New York, and Miami—which is where I live now.
Fun Fact #2: I am the oldest of three girls, which means I can be a little bit bossy (according to my younger sisters).
Fun Fact #3: I have lots of favorite foods. My top three are cheeseburgers, coffee ice cream, and cinnamon rolls. I also really like spaghetti, movie popcorn, chocolate covered raisins, malted milk balls, and peaches.
Fun Fact #4: I have as many favorite authors as I have favorite foods, but if I had to choose my all-time favorite when I was growing up, it would definitely be Judy Blume.
Fun Fact #5: My favorite kind of books are realistic fiction. I’ve always loved reading about real characters and how they handle difficult situations and challenges. I also LOVE humor! Funny books make me laugh out loud.
Fun Fact #6: I love to read as much as I love to write. When I was growing up I used to read under the covers with a flashlight. I would leave one ear sticking out of the blanket so I could hear my dad coming down the hall. The first sound of footsteps and it was lights out for me!
Fun Fact #7: Readers always want to know which Mallory book is my favorite. It’s a hard question to answer because I like them all. But I have a real soft spot for Heart to Heart with Mallory. I used to keep a journal when I was Mallory’s age and her journal sounds very similar to mine.
Fun Fact #8: Readers also want to know what inspires me. I like writing about things that happened to me when I was growing up. I also like writing about things that happened to my kids and their friends. And I love writing about holidays!
Fun Fact #9: I collect anything with hearts on it. I also have a bulletin board covered with my favorite quotes. You’ll find lots of these quotes in my new series, The Mostly Miserable Life of April Sinclair.
Fun fact #10: I’ve always liked writing things in rhyme. When I was growing up, I wrote poems for people on their birthdays. I wrote a poem to my mother for Mother’s Day when I was in 5th grade, and she still has it in a frame hanging on her wall.
Fun fact #11: When I was little, I wanted to be lots of things including a movie star, an astronaut, a hairdresser, a waitress, and more than anything, an author. Before I started writing books for kids, I worked at several advertising agencies making ads for magazines and TV.
Fun fact #12: Some of my favorite books include Wonder, The Fault in Our Stars, Because of Winn Dixie, Walk Two Moons, Eleanor & Park and too many others to name!
Fun fact #13: Growing up, my favorite TV shows were The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family and Gilligan’s Island. I’m also a big fan of Parenthood.
Fun fact #14: I am a big believer in outlining and revising my books. When I start writing a new book, the first thing I do is make an outline, then I write the book and then I revise it until I’m satisfied the book is the best that it can be.
Fun fact #15: I have written over 40 books for kids and think I have the best job in the world. The best part of my job is when I hear from fans like you who like my books.
Keep reading! Keep writing! I think you all deserve A+’s on your book reports!
