I hope you’re all holiday ready.  I know I’m ready for the holidays! 

In case there are still some people on your list, here’s a last minute gift idea that you will have fun making and your friends will have drinking!

Hot Chocolate Mix

1 (8 quart size) instant non-fat dry milk

1 (2 lb.) can Nestle’s Quik

1 (1 lb.) bottle coffee creamer

2 cups powdered sugar  

Mix ingredients together in a big bowl.   Divide into pretty jars and decorate with ribbons, bows, and cards.  You can print the directions to make the hot chocolate on computer labels and stick them on to the jars.  Here they are:

Directions:  Place 3 heaping tablespoons of mix in a mug.  Pour boiling water over it.  Stir.  Add marshmallows.  Enjoy!

Hi Everybody,

It’s hard to believe the holidays are almost upon us and I hope that means lots of good things for everyone.  I took a little poll of readers recently to find out what they thought would make a great holiday gift, and guess what topped the list:  a new pet!

I know there are a lot of pet lovers (and I’m one of them) out there.  If you like reading books about families getting a new pet, then Mallory vs. Max is the book for you.  Of course, Mallory already has a pet, her cat Cheeseburger, but someone else in the McDonald house is getting one too.  No names, but here’s a hint:  His name starts with an “M” and ends with an “X”.  Here’s a picture of the cover.

Hi Everybody!

How are you?  I hope the answer is great and that you’re all gearing up for a colorful holiday season!

Speaking of colorful, a 3rd grader recently asked me who picks all the pretty colors on the covers of the Mallory books.  First, I’m glad you  like the colors of the covers.  Second, what a great question and here’s your answer:

A lot of people including the author, the illustrator, and the editor get involved with selecting the colors of the covers, but the main person who helps make that choice is a fabulous and creative person, otherwise known as the art director. 

The art director is in charge of making sure the Mallory books look their best, and taking extra special care of the cover is one of the most important parts of an art director’s job.
